In the 2008-09 school year, PartnersSI began a collaboration with New Leaders for New Schools (NLNS), a national non-profit organization whose mission is to attract and prepare outstanding school leaders for urban schools. We are implementing this collaboration in 4 elementary schools in Oakland Unified School District and 1 charter school in San Jose. All 5 schools are led by principals who have completed New Leaders' rigorous year-long training and residency program and embrace a results-oriented, student-centered approach to school change. We are optimistic that this new partnership will further enhance our capacity to accelerate student literacy gains. We believe that the combination of NLNS's expertise in attracting and developing outstanding principals and PartnersSI's expertise in building skills, knowledge and effective collaboration among teacher leaders and grade level teams will bring both organizations' success to new levels and contribute to our long-term vision of 90-100% of the students we serve being on track to go to college.
