Grand Rapids

As the fifth-largest school district in Michigan, Grand Rapids Public Schools (GRPS) serves just over 15,222 students. In GRPS, 77% are students of color and 77% are economically disadvantaged.

Moving into our second year of partnership, Partners and GRPS educators work shoulder-to-shoulder supporting school leaders and teachers across six schools to support the critical needs of the diverse student population: Burton Elementary, Buchanan Elementary, MLK Leadership Academy K-8, Southwest Community K-8, Burton Middle and Alger Middle.

Our research based approach has produced tangible and verifiable results in GRPS which has seen the steady growth in the percentage of students academic scores. In the schools we support in GRPS, the percentage of Latino students demonstrating proficiency with grade level math concepts has increased by 15 percentage points over the past two years.

For the last three years the number of students that we’ve moved from the bottom 30% is phenomenal! Partners in School Innovation has made such a difference in our school.
