Closing the Gap, Impacting San Jose Schools
Three out of fourteen PartnersSI schools were honored
as achieving some of the most dramatic gains in California (out
of 126 schools honored) at the recent Just
for the Kids Honor Roll event on November 13. Using academic
achievement data, Just for the Kids-CA and the California Business
for Education Excellence Foundation identifies and honors the
highest performing schools in California.
PartnersSI's expertise and success transforming low-performing
schools was cited as key to scaling its impact across all
of the downtown San Jose low-performing elementary schools at
a recent forum entitled "Investing in Education: Why Private Dollars
Matter," hosted by the San
Jose Education Foundation. The participants included Alberto
Ibarguen, president and CEO of the John S. and James L. Knight
Foundation; Bruce Chizen, who retired this month as CEO of Adobe
Systems; Michael Kirst, professor emeritus of education at Stanford
University; John Porter, superintendent of Franklin-McKinley School
District in San Jose; and Michael O'Farrell, who retired this
year as vice president of global affairs for Applied Materials.
The San Jose Mercury News editorial writer John Fensterwald
was the moderator. Click
