Our School Transformation Framework
- Continuously improve the instructional program: Our School Innovation Partners (SIPs) build the capacity of grade-level teams of teachers to build and integrate the individual pieces of a strong core instructional program that meets the needs of all students to ensure sustained student-achievement results. We work with teacher teams to:
- Establish or strategically adjust the scope and sequence of a rigorous, standards-based curriculum;
- Use a comprehensive set of assessments and analyze achievement results to identify student needs and determine next steps for instruction and intervention;
- Develop standards-based lessons that incorporate key instructional practices that scaffold learning for all students, particularly African American, Latino, and EL students.
- Develop a system for teacher professional learning: Our SIPs build the capacity of school leaders -- including principals, coaches, and teacher leaders -- to develop and strengthen the systems that support teachers' professional learning to ensure sustained student-achievement results. We work with leaders to:
- Plan high-quality professional development on instructional strategies attuned with the needs of African American, Latino, and EL students;
- Carry out grade-level collaboration in which teachers plan standards-based instruction together, analyze their results, and adjust practice using Results-Oriented Cycles of Inquiry (ROCI);
- Create a system of instructional coaching that provides teachers with differentiated support to improve instructional practice.
- Lead Results-Oriented Cycles of Inquiry: Our SIPs provide ongoing coaching for principals, coaches and teacher leaders on the results-oriented approach that is critical to transforming instruction and sustaining results. This work focuses on the implementation of essential practices needed to create a school environment where high quality teaching and learning can take place. We work with leaders to:
- Develop a clear and compelling vision and establish school-wide goals for student achievement and school capacity;
- Determine a theory of action for reaching goals, as well as professional learning plan for supporting teachers to develop their practice;
- Implement a system for monitoring implementation and outcomes;
- Use student achievement and teacher practice data to reflect on and adjust the school's approach to improvement along the way.
