In 2000, we embarked on a multiyear effort to establish
ourselves as a major participant in Silicon Valley's efforts to
strengthen public schools serving low-income communities. To achieve
our goal, we launched a major collaboration with Applied Materials.
As a centerpiece of their corporate philanthropy program, Applied
Materials launched the San Jose Education Initiative to forge
public/private partnerships to yield significant improvement and
lasting results within communities that have the lowest educational
performance.
Expansion in San Jose Unified School District
As we enter the 2007-08 school year, Partners in School Innovation
will be undergoing a significant expansion in San Jose. Working
in partnership with Applied Materials and the Superintendent of
San Jose Unified School District, we will expand our intensive
services from 4 to 12 low-performing elementary schools in downtown
San Jose, scaling our impact in our existing schools across new
schools and transforming the quality of education for our Latino,
African American and English learner students.
Objectives of The San Jose Education Partnership:
- Achieve breakthrough student learning results
- Develop best practices in classroom teaching and school leadership
- Create a thriving system of public schools to serve the San
Jose community
