Alex comes to Partners having worked in education for the past 11 years guided by the firm belief that EVERY student can be successful, especially those in historically under-served communities. He received a B.A. from the University of Hawaii with a focus on post-colonial literature. He then joined New York Teaching Fellows and taught an integrated Algebra and Physics course at a high school in the Bronx. In addition to teaching, Alex served as the grade level lead, department lead and in his final year, Dean of Students. Alex moved to the Bay Area in 2011 with his wife who is a Bay Area native. For the past five years he has been working with a small project-based portfolio charter network in the Bay Area as both a Vice Principal of Student Support and Vice Principal of Operations. During this time he led both culture, academic and systems improvement at his schools’ sites. Alex is a proud father of twins and is excited to bring his skill set to Partners in working to build a better public school system for his kids and for all kids.
“Do not train children to learn by force and harshness, but direct them to it by what amuses their minds, so that you may be better able to discover with accuracy the peculiar bent of the genius of each.” —Plato
