Eddie Scruggs Smith
Ms. Scruggs Smith has been passionate about working in urban school districts since 1995, when she began as a volunteer and worked with striking Oakland teachers to provide academic support to students at a strike school. In the years since, Ms. Scruggs Smith has held several positions in the field of education.
First, she served as a middle school teacher and then an elementary teacher. As a graduate student affiliated with the Principal Leadership Institute at the University of California, Berkeley, she graduated with a master’s degree in education and began a transition into administration. Ms. Scruggs Smith has served as an elementary, middle, and high school principal.
For the past ten years, Ms. Scruggs Smith has been a member of the Association of California School Administrators, and she served as the Northern Alameda Charter President.
She is dedicated to implementing equitable practices that provide students of color with learning environments that empower them to excel academically and thrive in social-emotional terms as well.
