A drive to learn has always been one of Megan’s core values. She pursued her own educational path at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in English and Spanish with an emphasis in Multicultural literature for adolescents. She began working for Kalamazoo Public Schools directly from her studies, in a large, urban school district known for their scholarship program, The Kalamazoo Promise. It was here, and under the opportunity such a generous scholarship provides, that she developed additional passion for preparing traditionally underserved students for college and beyond. Her classroom experience, of seven years, combined with the strategic and deliberative steps it takes to move students over their achievement hurdles help to solidify a belief that something can be done about this country’s educational crisis and now is the time to do it.
“There is no magic to achievement. It’s really about hard work, choices and persistence.” – Michelle Obama
